Thanks, H&R Block

So today is Theo's 8-month birthday. He had a nice day, we went for a walk this morning, and we had fun playing this afternoon after work. But then, as I was sitting with him on the couch, things got exciting. The phone rang (blue lights!! sound!!), and the caller ID said "Happy B-Day." Thinking that this must be something for Theo, I hit speakerphone and let him stare in wonderment at the magical phone. Lots of cheering and a recording of the Happy Birthday song came through! But then, instead of "Happy Birthday, Dear The-o" it sang "Happy Birthday, Dear Lamar." So close. It was a recording from H&R block, where apparently Lamar filed his taxes last year and where they have his birthday on record and where they apparently have our phone number on record. Oh, well, Theo thought it was fantastic.

Mail Call!

Always one for a bargain, Theo likes to sort through the Val-Pak coupons.
But likes the personal stuff best. Here he is admiring Asha's birth announcement.

While No One Was Looking...

... I grew a neck! I used to not have a neck, I just had these skin folds where I stored gunk. But now, I have a neck, and I am using my cheeks for storage. Posted by Theo

Vintage, whatever, I'll barf on it.

This is John's coat, from when he was little. We thought it was pretty cool to put it on Theo. He doesn't seem to impressed.

Motormouth

What did you do today? This is how Theo spent his Sunday: going "b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b-b." Yesterday he spent about 45 minutes playing with a Gatorade bottle. Big weekend.

Hey Chip

Just seeing if you really are on my RSS feed.

Peas, please!

He likes it, he likes it! Theo will eat anything! Except avocados!

Sweet Home Chicago/Moline

Theo gets his own seat on the plane. What--no one wants to sit in the row with the baby?

Theo's first time at T.G.I.Friday's. He finds the flair a bit shocking.

I don't know why this is sideways. John must have known it would turn out this way--he angled his head appropriately.

whoa. wait a minute, that's not my mom. and where's my sock?! what is going on here?!

Theo likes Uncle Pete's Eastern European version of Antoine--a brief distraction from The Most Interesting Lamp Ever.

Today it Snowed.

Booooooooo. I thought the West Coast was supposed to get the earthquakes, and the Midwest got the late-spring snow.
In other news, I gave Theo a Rubik's Cube and he barfed all over it. Surprise. Where was he when we needed him -- back in the day -- when Pete used to take it apart and lube it up. Theo's method saves a lot of time.

Fun with Big Mama & Big Papa

Two great pictures from our trip--floor time with Big Papa and looking out the door on a house tour with Big Mama. Note to Theo--if you'd learn to talk, maybe you could come up with something better than Big Mama and Big Papa.

Not quite ready for the 100-meter

We were a little over-prepared for this: a new swimsuit, borrowed swim diapers and swimshirt, all so Theo could get his toes wet and cling onto his mom for dear life. You can't quite tell in the photos, but he was NOT enjoying himself. Maybe it was the screaming 10 year old girls in the pool, maybe not. Oh well, the Moline Radisson will forever be a special place to us, site of Theo's first attempted swim. And his first stay in a hotel, in a suite no less!

Back from Chicago

Well, I haven't had time to post much since we were in Chicago. We had a great time with family, despite being there for Gramma Lillian's memorial. Theo's main developments over the course of the week were: 1. Deciding to eat like a monster--bowl after bowl of applesauce just wasn't enough 2. Beginning to say a distinguishable "da-da" while John was away for work. I think he missed his dad. 3. Testing out swimming at the Radisson in Moline--not a huge fan. But what a cute little swimsuit! There were lots more fun things, more to come later!

The Other White (Rubber) Meat

I'm ready to eat, mom! Can I get a fork and knife for this giraffe?

Just Call Him Steak Sauce

John just checked in for our Southwest flight tomorrow, and got boarding pass number A-1! First guy on the plane! Ironic, as he usually likes to sit around at the gate until the plane is about to take off and the either the gate people or I make him board. And, to be fair, he paid extra to get guaranteed A-status, so maybe he is the only person to do that. To be more fair, he did not pay extra, his employer did.

More meat, please.

Some of our readers have requested cooked meatloaf, and some have requested meatloaf for non-baby occasions. Luckily, we serve it all. Also, on a related note, here is a plate of spaghetti and meatball, served to Pete in Whistler. Oh, and a lasagna.

You won't find this in the Lillian Vernon catalog

Personalized meatloaf--the perfect gift for new parents! All you have to do is have a baby, and we'll drop one off with a side of potatoes. In the future we are planning to not only personalize them, but make them weigh the same as the baby. 12 letter maximum, please.

Bo-ring

PENNY(staring at screen): I wish I had something to say.
JOHN (staring at his phone): Hmmnn.
PENNY: Do you have anything to say?
JOHN: No.
PENNY: Hmmnn.
JOHN: Is there an N on there?
PENNY: Yeah, how would you spell it?
JOHN: I don't know, I didn't know there was an N on there. Hmmm-nn.
